We're the big neighborhood of Core City in Detroit fighting for what we deserve.

Core City Strong is working to bring our beautiful residential neighborhood back to its former glory before redlining, economic discrimination, white flight, and the I-96 construction hit the area.

We work to amplify the voices of the most underserved in our hood, fight back against bad actors who don't respect our voices, and drive future planning initiatives that will make the area more equitable, healthy, and welcoming for everyone -- especially for Detroit residents who have called this area home for their whole lives.

We meet every 3rd Wednesday of the month.

We have a ton of ongoing projects but our biggest campaign is downzoning the intensive industrial lots in Core City and stopping Murray Wikol of CanAm International Trade Crossing from building a toxic, open-air concrete crushing facility at 4445 Lawton St. We are also working to get Wikol to properly clean up his illegal mess of many 1-2 story piles of concrete debris that’s blowing toxic fugitive dust throughout our neighborhood.

UPDATE: We’ve won the fight to stop Murray Wikol’s concrete-crushing facility but are now fighting to get him to clean up his toxic mess and leave our neighborhood. We know he’ll always put his own profit above what’s best for the neighborhood. The City of Detroit has a public nuisance lawsuit against him, but Wikol is fighting it after accumulating over $144k in fines. Ms. Kristin Lusn is currently representing him as his lawyer.

Wikol’s behavior towards Core City is environmental racism and economic discrimination in plain sight. This story isn’t new for industrial developers in Detroit. Wikol bought the lot at 4445 Lawton St from Wayne County for $1,300 in 2013, tried to sell it for $800,000+ but failed, and is now looking to use our vibrant neighborhood as a sacrifice zone for his own profit.
